With Spring at a full trot, this weekend marks the fourth edition (since 2015) of the prestigious 1-54 Fair in New York City.

The 1-54 Contemporary Art Fair was founded by Touria El Glaoui in 2013; the debut was in London.

It presents artists and galleries from Africa’s 54 countries in order to exhibit their tremendous creative output for art lovers, curators and museums.

UNTITLED: Anane Asare, acrylic on canvas, 63 x 91 cm, 2001. Signed lower left. Private collection, purchased from the artist.

El Glaoui explains, “Art has the power of asking questions.

What I hope is that people who see contemporary African art for the first time will leave with a new curiosity to learn more about some of the artists they’ve discovered or the countries where they’re coming from.

This fair is about opening minds.”
