AN EXTREMELY RARE SELFIE

By Nii B. Andrews

We have in a previous post looked at the historical background to the selfie phenomenon.

On this occasion we are elated to be able to share with you an extremely rare selfie/self-portrait of a Ghanaian colossus.

(We have deliberately shied away from the word “icon” as in the current epoch it has been subject to profanation).

This painting has not been seen in public since it was completed almost half a century ago.

However, the celebrated artist has emphatically confirmed that he executed the self-portrait in 1970.

On account of our deep reverence for the genius of the artist, the painting is shown here without further comment.

SELF PORTRAIT: Ablade Glover, oil on chipboard, 1970, 64x94cm, signed but not dated. Private collection, purchased from the artist.
