HAPPY NEW YEAR

To all our readers and well wishers.

We are extremely grateful for your support.

AFRICAN DANCE ECSTASY II; Owusu-Antwi, acrylic on canvas, 74 x 107 cm, 2003. Signed and dated right lower corner. Private collection, purchased from the artist.

We are excited and eager to bring you more eclectic and thought provoking content in 2018 and hopefully beyond especially since contemporary African art continues to take the world by storm as a strong capital asset.

More importantly, we know that art can stimulate far more complex dialogues.

It can reveal that which we would rather not know about.

It can confound the powerful – the tin gods – who attempt to control what comes into our visual spaces.

With the antique valet all set; classic jazz and a wee dram of premium single malt add to a gentleman’s enjoyable experience of donning black tie – a refined and veritable New Year’s eve tradition.

Sometimes art moves us out of our social, political and aesthetic  doldrums and becomes a catalyst for action.

Now, how about bringing back the cachet and allure of New Year’s eve?

“Shine your Mary Janes on the underside of a couch cushion” – Sinatra. Opera pumps raise the ante. We are not going to work so leave the notch lapel jacket, oxford shoes and wrist watch at home. But a serious arm ornament is obligatory!

The ladies always rise to the occasion and will not need any pointers.

But the gentlemen?

A self tied black silk diamond tip bow tie, a white silk boutonniere and a touch of red for the pocket square……just in case SHE spills some champagne.
The cream (not white) dj- à la Bogart; restricted to the tropics/subtropics or on a cruise ship. Red boutonniere, jazz age pocket square, vintage batwing bow tie…….swish!

Folks, do welcome the New Year in style – always mindful of and eternally grateful to the Giver of All Good Things.

And beseech the dear Lord to have mercy on ALL of us.

Peace, Happiness and good Art for all…..HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. I thought I noticed a familiar chin w/o a moustache and toothpaste smile..🙄🙄🙄

  2. Great piece. I could read it every day and not get tired. The writing is powerful, simple, enjoyable and of course educative.

But you forgot to add that you dress like this when you’re going somewhere. 🤣

    Happy New Year
