WHEN SHALL WE REBOOT THE OLD EMPIRE?

By Nii B. Andrews.

Several events in the past week have served to expose the despicable stench of sycophancy, ignorance and dishonesty which are at the core of public life in ghana.

Hyperpartisanship has led to the total subjugation of truth and principle in the rabid quest for victory in a barely nominal winner takes all four year ballot box democracy.

Some of us have been left in total dismay, albeit not surprised.

It is abundantly clear that now ingrained in the marrow of the society are wanton lawlessness and total disregard for the truth which all pose an existential threat to the country.

How can a country which was named after a glorious West African empire, whose influence with regards to governance lasted several centuries, find itself today in a position where lawlessness has become normalized?

Should today’s shaky republic  – ghana, not be differentiated from the Sahelian giant? How in all intellectual honesty can the two entities be considered identical and share the same name?

It is impossible to accept that the contemporary rogues, wasters, “anointed” buffoons, rented shrill press, bankSTERS, poliTRIKcians ….and other associated undesirables, could have had any place in ancient Ghana let alone be allowed a relentless public display of their vagrancy and profound ineptitude.

Hopefully, soon enough there will be a critical mass of enlightened people within the country with the moral courage to refuse to tolerate the lawlessness any longer.

Then we could reboot the old giant, its virtues and capabilities, and retool it for the modern age.

Or perhaps on the other hand, there are too few people in ghana – with its wealth of resources so near the equator, who have any qualms about being and remaining The Wretched of the Earth.

  1. What we are seeing now is far worse than when forcible removal happened in 1966, 1972, 1979 and 1981. We have resolved not to go the route of forcible removal but to use the ballot box.

    But now?

Name calling and open, four-yearly fearless rape of the nation. No reprisals as new crop immediately shamelessly join the looting. SAD. REBOOT IS THE WORD.
