WHO BE ME?

THE UPCOMING KOFI SETORDJI SOLO EXHIBITION; Nov 1-5, 2017

By Nii B. Andrews

One of Ghana’s prominent artists, Kofi Setordji is 60 this year.

To celebrate this milestone, he will showcase his latest work at the La Maison in Accra from November 1 – 5, 2017.

Setordji in this solo exhibition plans to examine who we are; how we came to be; which or where is our home.

He will reflect on family, the society and the life cycle.

Simply put, he will ask each of us to answer for himself, “Who be me?”

That question certainly needs no translation or explanation for  anyone- pidgin English speaker or not.. ..and that includes the BBC!

It is envisaged that the exhibition venue within the furniture and lifestyle store – La Maison, will enable patrons to experience and appreciate first hand the relationship between art and interior design.

Hopefully, this will also encourage more newcomers to enter the contemporary art market since the venue should readily assist them in understanding and visualizing how to integrate art into their decor and lifestyle.

The exhibition will include paintings in Setordji’s no holds barred expressive angular style and sculptures.

He has for decades consistently refused to be intimidated by Africa’s formidable sculptural heritage.

A sneak preview of the exhibition portfolio reveals that the works are unpretentious, engaging, polemical and poetic.

We all must plan to attend.
