Wiz and I belong to the same age set, so I shall keep this simple.
His paintings utilize syncopated, rhythmic repetition with changes in texture, color, form, pattern and dynamism.
He almost always suffuses them with bright colors albeit with an inherent harmony.
A certain expressiveness that moves the senses appears to emanate from the work.
What is evoked is a humane, heroic and hopeful feeling.
The African motifs cannot be missed; they are always there but in a subtle and sophisticated fashion so as to engender a commitment to inclusiveness and graciousness.
The sum total is a salute to the past while offering a definition and a trajectory to our present existence.
Wiz takes the past and present and makes something new- a new image.
All of this makes Wiz one of the important artists of my generation and beyond.
