QUOTATION # 9

ON DAVID ADJAYE

A)

“He is fascinated by detail.

He is talented, but he is also a brilliant and charming man.

He is a consummate self-publicist and he has this ability to convince and cajole clients into doing things they may never have thought they wanted to do in the first place.

And he’s brilliantly optimistic. He always goes in thinking big, pushing the client beyond their limits.”

                                                            WILLIAM RUSSELL

B)

“The positive energy David gives off is just infectious.

He’s a visionary and totally fearless.

You psych each other up and it feels like you can push boundaries together.

He’s such a generous and happy person.

When he walks into a room it just lights up.”

SUE WEBSTER

C)

“He is very good at making enclosures that feel as though they contain you.

They feel warm. He may not be using warm materials, but the spaces have a generosity and sensual richness to them.

He is very aware of all the senses.

Like many British architects before him, he has had to go abroad to see success

After a decade away, it seems he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves here.”

NICHOLAS SEROTA

D)

“Some say his speedy elevation has been aided by the long-present void in the architecture world of any black architects of note, his rise helping to assuage a mostly white profession’s collective guilt”.

 OLIVER WAINWRIGHT

E)

“He always starts from scratch, rethinking typologies with a keen sense of how to stimulate civic engagement through architecture.”

  ZOE RYAN

  1. At last an African Professional has been recognized while he is alive.

I am sure if the world looks hard enough without the need to assuage ‘collective guilt’ many more others shall be discovered.

    Beauty is universal!
