Marrakech – the ancient African city, is about to heat up even more as a hub for contemporary African art (CAA).
To begin with, the 1:54 fair will have its African debut in the Red City in February 2018.
At the same time a magnificent new museum for CAA (its official name is the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden) will be launched in order to showcase the impressive private collection of Moroccan hotel mogul, Alami Lazraq and his son, Othman.
Their collection is reported to include over 2000 pieces of modern and CAA.
According to Othman Lazraq- the president of the not-for- profit museum, the synergy of 1:54 and the launch of the museum will provide a tremendous positive impact on the world of international art.
Marrakech with its vibrant souks, luxurious hotels, fabulous riads, wise-cracking residents and cosmopolitan flair is already an enchanting city – a truly highly coveted destination among the international jet set and discerning travelers.
The Red City has always been an inclusive hotbed of creativity; a welcoming and comfortable home to traditional and contemporary artists for a thousand years.
The imminent launch of the Macaal (the new museum for CAA); the recently launched YSL museum; the 1:54 Fair; the refurbishment of ancient Foundouks (inns) and El Mellah (Jewish quarter) – these exciting cultural spaces, all combine to make Marrakech even more attractive to aesthetes and bon vivants from all over the world.
